Built on Salesforce’s Customer 360, and heavily integrated with Data Cloud, Agentforce does more than enhance workflows; it sets a new standard in AI-driven automation. It is a platform for building autonomous and/or assistive AI agents, empowering businesses to manage key tasks without human intervention.

Agentforce Agents can be:
- Assistive (For example, helping a human agent summarize a record or suggest an article for a resolution.)

How Does Agentforce Work?
From a technical standpoint, Salesforce Agentforce can be a bit overwhelming. This is unlike anything Salesforce Administrators have ever used before. Understanding AI principles, data retrieval processes, how Large Language Models (LLMs) work, BYOM (we can build our own models), prompt engineering best practices, how to put in guardrails, etc., can all be very daunting to learn, never mind put into practice. However, at its core, there are a few things to help you get comfortable:
- Agents are built declaratively in the Agent Builder interface. These agents are built using a combination of Natural Language Instructions alongside assigned actions (like Flow, Apex, etc.). The builder also gives you the ability to test and iterate on your agents before putting them in their respective channels.
Authors note: Testing and iterating are of utmost importance when creating agents, more than any other Salesforce functionality ever released. Agents introduce their own reasoning, and it’s important that you are putting your agents through the “testing ringer”, trying to tease out hallucinations, data breaches, etc. Ideally our Trust Layer below keeps us protected but second in line is our testing and iteration process. We want to make sure our agents are not going outside of their “roles” and replying how we would expect them to!
- Agentforce then uses the Atlas Reasoning Engine to understand customer questions and provide clear, logical answers. The Atlas Reasoning Engine is Salesforce’s AI system that enables logical reasoning and decision-making to solve complex customer queries and provide accurate, context-aware responses.
